In April 2020, Ukrainian organic stakeholders united in the Organic Initiative which became a platform for cooperation, exchange of ideas, and development of joint plans for the organic market development in Ukraine.
Over these three years several projects on promotion of organic food on the domestic market have been implemented and more were planned but some plans had to be changed.
However, the events after the full-scale invasion on 24 February 2022 showed that the Organic Initiative is a powerful force.
In May 2022, together we were able to start implementing the Grant Program to support organic producers. Just a few days ago we announced the results of Phase 3 of the Grant Program which was implemented with support of Switzerland in the frame of the Swiss-Ukrainian Program “Higher Value Added Trade from the Organic and Dairy Sector in Ukraine” (QFTP). By the way, QFTP has been one of permanent partners of the Organic Initiative since its establishment.
However, scaling projects, development of cooperation with new partners and new sector needs require institutional and organizational changes. Therefore, at the beginning of the year it was decided to register a public association.
On 2 June 2023 Organic Initiative Public Association was officially registered!
Our mission remains unchanged – to contribute to development of organic farming, market and food production in Ukraine; to contribute to organic trade and increasing demand for Ukrainian organic products on the domestic and international markets; to contribute to implementation of sustainable farming practices and green economy development in Ukraine. Olena Deineko, who had been the Organic Initiative Coordinator since its establishment, was appointed as the Chairwoman of the Board of the Public Association.
